How to Cure Acute and Chronic Cystitis?

What is Cystitis?

Cystitis is the inflammation of the urinary bladder which is typified by excruciating and sparse urination.

Note words under the quotation marks (“ ”) are Filipino words or terms.

Here are effective ways to treat cystitis with natural remedies:

Water Treatment:

  1. Drink a glass of water at an interval of one hour daily. This will help a lot in cleansing your bladder.
  2. Apply hot sitz bath for 20 to 30 minutes, twice a day.

Herbal Treatments or Medications

Elumea, Ngaicamphor or “Sambong” leaves

Procedure: Boil one cup of chopped fresh leaves of elumea in 2 glasses of water for 15 minutes. The dosage for adult is one half cup thrice a day. For children 2 to 6 years old the dosage is 2 tablespoons, thrice a day and for 7 to 12 years old the dosage is a quarter of a cup, thrice a day.

Fragrant Screwpine or “Pandan” leaves

Procedure: Boil one cup of chopped fresh screwpine leaves in two glasses of water for 15 minutes. The dosage for adult is one cup, thrice a day. For children 2 to 6 years old the dosage is a quarter of a cup, thrice a day and for 7 to 12 years old the dosage is half a cup, thrice a day.

Melon Tree, Papu or “Papaya” leaves and green fruit

Procedure: Boil one cup of chopped fresh “papaya” leaves and a cup chopped green fruit in four glasses of water for 15 minutes. The dosage for adult is one cup, thrice a day. For children 2 to 6 years old the dosage is a quarter of a cup, thrice a day and for 7 to 12 years old the dosage is half a cup, thrice a day.

Corn or “Mais” Hair

Procedure: Boil two cups of chopped fresh young corn hairs in four glasses of water for 15 minutes. The dosage for adult is one cup, thrice a day. For children 2 to 6 years old the dosage is a half a cup, thrice a day and for 7 to 12 years old the dosage is one cup, thrice a day.

Malabar Night Shade – Basella rubra Linn

Fragrant Screwpine - Pandanus odoratissimus L.

Melon Tree or Papu – Carica papaya

Corn – Zea mays L.

Parting Words

Aside from its medicinal properties, the “pandan” leaves are commonly used here in the Philippines to make cooked rice taste and smell better. A ripe “papaya” fruit is delicious and can be a great dessert. A green papaya is usually cooked as an ingredient in vegetable viands. Its quiet surprising that the corn hair has its medicinal value especially in treating cystitis.
